That was Amazing! | ¡Eso Fue Maravilloso!

That was Amazing!
Have you ever heard yourself say the words “that was amazing!” You sometimes said it out loud, or just quietly to yourself. For me, it happens when something occurs that really is outside the normal way of events! We hear several stories in the Gospels where Jesus does some amazing things. He calms the stormy sea; he heals the blind beggar; he restores life to the widow’s son and the centurion’s daughter. Those were all pretty amazing incidents.

Another amazing incident is the healing of a paralyzed person. His friends bring him to Jesus who does two amazing things in this story. He says to the man, “Your sins are forgiven,” and then he says, “Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home.” The story goes on to say he did it! Wow! That was amazing. The onlookers were astonished! Some saw Jesus as sent by God to do wonderful things, while others were suspicious and critical of his behavior, wondering who this man is who can forgive sins and also heal infirmities.

In the journey of vocation discernment, we sometimes find ourselves wondering when we see or hear about someone else’s amazing experience. We think ours should be going the same way.

As I reflect back on my desire for religious life as a teenager, I remember that it was something a few of us talked about together. I saw my pathway to the convent from an early age, while others were still trying to figure out if it was for them. Some said, maybe I will follow the way, while others said, no, it’s not for me. I was not afraid to embrace what was a new and amazing way for me. There were other sisters and friends who encouraged me, and a bit like the friends of the paralyzed man, they stayed with me in the amazing journey.

If your vocation call seems too amazing for you to handle, don’t be afraid; talk to friends, spiritual guides, and sisters who have taken the steps to follow the amazing call to service in the way of Jesus. See what happens if you step out on a different path and discover something amazing about yourself, your journey, and others along the way.

¡Eso Fue Maravilloso!
¿Alguna vez se ha oído decir "¡Eso fue maravilloso!"? A veces lo dijo en voz alta, o simplemente en voz baja. A mí me pasa cuando ocurre algo que realmente se sale de lo común. En los Evangelios encontramos varias historias donde Jesús hace cosas asombrosas: calma el mar tempestuoso, cura al mendigo ciego, devuelve la vida al hijo de la viuda y a la hija del centurión. Todos esos fueron sucesos realmente asombrosos.

Otro incidente asombroso es la curación de un paralítico. Sus amigos lo llevan ante Jesús, quien realiza dos cosas increíbles en esta historia. Le dice al hombre: “Tus pecados te son perdonados” y luego dice: “levántate, toma tu camilla y vete a casa”. La historia continúa diciendo que ¡lo hizo! ¡Wow! Eso fue maravilloso. ¡Los que estaban presentes quedaron atónitos! Algunos vieron a Jesús como enviado de Dios para hacer cosas maravillosas, mientras que otros desconfiaban y criticaban su comportamiento, preguntándose quién era este hombre que podía perdonar pecados y también curar enfermedades.

En el camino del discernimiento vocacional, a veces nos preguntamos, al ver o escuchar sobre la increíble experiencia de otra persona, si la nuestra debería ir por el mismo camino.

Al reflexionar sobre mi deseo de llevar una vida religiosa en mi adolescencia, recuerdo que era algo que comentábamos entre varias. Desde muy joven, veía mi camino hacia el convento, mientras que otras aún intentaban discernir si era lo suyo. Algunas decían, tal vez siga ese camino, mientras que otras decían, no es para mí. No tuve miedo de abrazar lo que para mí era un camino nuevo y maravilloso. Había otras hermanas y amigas quienes me animaron y, al igual que las amigas del paralítico, me acompañaron en esa increíble jornada.

Si su vocación le parece demasiada abrumadora, no tema. Hable con amigas, guías espirituales y hermanas que ya han dado el paso de seguir el maravilloso llamado al servicio en el camino de Jesús. Observe qué sucede si se aventure por un camino diferente y descubra algo asombroso sobre usted, su camino y las demás que encuentre por el camino.
