Oh, how did I not know that Maureen had died! I lived with her for three wonderful years in El Paso while I was director of Centro Santa Catalina and she continued to find ways to market the cooperative's products so effectively and creatively. The women loved her and knew how much she loved them and believed in them even though she constantly bemoaned the fact that she couldn't master Spanish. She had certainly mastered the language of the heart that crosses all barriers!Enjoy now the fullness of life, Maureen! The God whom you so much wanted to know upon your entrance to religious life has welcomed you home.Rene Weeks, OPDominican Sisters of Peace
The Gallaghers were my next door neighbors in St. Kilian parish in Chicago. I have fond memories of all of them.
It was a joy and a privilege to accompany Sr. Maureen in her ministry at Centro Santa Catalina in El Paso and in Juarez, Mexico. We visited the sewing co-op in Juarez once or twice a week, returning loaded with products and prayed our way through the check point on the bridge. Maureen did the marketing/planning for the many sales. We sold at Catholic parishes every weekend from October through Christmas and for the rest of the year, we had at least one sale a month. All the proceeds went to the women in the co-op.Though Maureen didn't speak Spanish, she had a beautiful relationship with the women and they loved her dearly. No doubt the ones who preceded her in death had a warm welcome for her in heaven.Thank you, Maureen, for all the love and joy we shared!Rita
Our Adrian Dominican cemetery with its circular headstones is a beautiful place of rest for women who gave their lives in service to God — and a peaceful place for contemplation and remembrance.
