A Sister Reflects - Reflexión de una Hermana

After the Facts | Después de los Datos

Part of the process of discerning what’s important in our lives is gathering facts that will help us look at what is real regarding our decisions. After the facts are gathered, then what to do with them? Facts help us orient ourselves to all the considerations we must attend to. They are not the whole story.

Another key aspect of discernment came to my attention in an article written by Sister Doris Klein, a Sister of St. Agnes and a beautiful visual artist and spiritual companion. It was her reminder that after we have actively gathered the information we need, we have to get under the facts and attend to our how we feel knowing all these facts, draw on our own lived wisdom and, of course, wonder how the Spirit is drawing us. The Spirit is an active part of discerning anything important for our lives.

In order to quiet ourselves enough to listen to those feelings and to internal guiding wisdom, she advises us to use lovely pieces of music, poems, our own or others’, and body movements like walking in nature. Each of these take us out of our minds that tend to want to control everything and may even be an obstacle at in discerning. We support discernment by quieting the incessant chatter of our thoughts so we can be still and really listen deeply. Why not reflect on this poem The Way It Is?

You also may have other practices that will take you to the quiet inside yourself where you can pay attention to how you feel as you consider what resonates, what is calling to your heart. Check out this video: Prayer as Dominicans

You will have strength for the journey, just ask,

We hope to start an online group in July to listen to God’s Word and welcome you to join us. If you would like to be with others for support and to share on Scripture passages in a reflective process, please send me an email to find out more about how this process works.

¿Por qué no reflexionar sobre este poema The Way It Is?
