Transfer Sister Vows Commitment
to the Congregation

In a ceremony held September 12 in Holy Rosary Chapel, Maria Rego, mscs, made her reaffirmation of vows as a perpetually professed sister with the Adrian Dominican Sisters. Sister Maria had been a vowed member of the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo-Scalabrinians since 1981. She began the three-year transfer process with the Adrian Dominicans in September 2001.

Prioress Donna Markham, OP, left, receives the vows of Maria Rego.

“It is my intent to say ‘yes’ in reaffirming my vowed life and deepening my commitment in the mission of Jesus and in the spirit and charism of the Adrian Dominican Congregation,” Sister Maria stated. “I desire to continue the journey with my bold and faithful Adrian Dominican Sisters. Through obedience, I accept the challenges placed before me. In hope, I cross the threshold into newness of life. In love, together with you, I desire to keep my whole person alive to actions that heal, bless and do justice and be a voice of Veritas.”

Sister Maria was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. At age 16, she moved to Canada with her parents and younger sister to join the rest of her family. She has four sisters and two brothers.

Sister Maria entered the Missionary Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo-Scalabrinians in October 1981. She taught, studied and worked in social work positions, and served on international committees of the Scalabrini Sisters.

Sister Maria received a bachelor’s degree in social work/theology from Loyola University, and a master’s degree in theological research and a master of divinity degree with a certificate in biblical spirituality from Catholic Theological Union. She ministers in the Pastoral Care Department at Mercy Hospital in Chicago.
