Services
So what is
there to do at the Dominican Life Center? Plenty! The enthusiastic and
energetic co-workers in Resident Services are eager to provide fun, enjoyable
activities and outings that enable residents to socialize with one other.
Offerings
include:
Arts and crafts
Bingo and card games
Movies, including Popcorn Theatre
Cookie bakes
Coffee and happy hours
Ice cream and other socials
Birthday and holiday parties
Nifty nails (manicures)
Pet visits
Style shows
Volunteer opportunities on the Adrian Dominican campus and in the community
Off-campus
activities include visits to theaters, including the historic Croswell
Opera House and the Tecumseh Civic Auditorium; restaurants; shopping malls;
museums; and zoos. Trips to Toledo, Ohio, and Ann Arbor, located 45 minutes
from Adrian, as well as to the Killarney house in the Irish Hills, are
frequently planned.
In
addition, supportive social services are provided by companions and general
assistants. Companions accompany residents to medical appointments, tests
and surgeries when needed, as well as provide prayerful support. General
assistants help with shopping needs, mending or clutter that needs attention,
and help to care for residents' personal space.
Beauty
Shop
The Beauty Shop, located on the first floor of the DLC, has a staff of
three beauticians who provide fee-based services to residents.
Parkinson's
Support Group
Parkinson's Support Group meetings, hosted by Dolores Smolke, OP, are held on the first Thursday of each month from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Regina Dining Room. The meetings are open to Parkinson's patients and their caregivers in Lenawee County.
Low
Vision Support Group
In addition, Resident Services sponsors the Low Vision Support Group for
sisters who have macular degeneration, glaucoma and other impairments.
Magnifiers, closed-circuit televisions and VERAs (Very Easy Reading Appliances)
are available for the sisters to use.
