Evensong for Peace, prayed at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time every Tuesday in Holy Rosary Chapel on the campus of the Adrian Dominican Sisters, is streamed live. This presents a special opportunity for people throughout the world – Adrian Dominican Sisters and Associates, other people of faith, and people of good will – to join the Congregation in praying for world peace.

Begun in 2004, Evensong for Peace has been a weekly opportunity for Adrian Dominican Sisters, Associates, and friends to gather and pray in solidarity with people who are suffering throughout the world and with those who are working for peace. Adrian Dominicans living away from campus have always been encouraged to pray for peace on Tuesdays in conjunction with the Sisters on campus.

Evensong for Peace, based on Vespers -- part of the Liturgy of the Hours traditionally prayed by Catholic clergy and religious -- involves the chanting of Psalm 141, offering praise as an “evening sacrifice” acceptable to God; the chanting of another psalm; a reading or reflection; intercessions for troubled spots in the world and in the local community; the chanting of Mary’s Magnificat or the Canticle of Simeon; a closing prayer; a closing hymn; and the Sign of Peace. The worship aid used by the Adrian Dominicans for Evensong for Peace during Ordinary Time is divided into 12 distinct prayer services. Special worship aids are used during Advent and Lent.

Holy Rosary Chapel has been wired for streaming since October 2009, when the Convening of General Chapter 2010 in Holy Rosary Chapel was transmitted to Sisters gathered in assemblies at locations throughout the United States. The campus prayer service on the Feast of St. Catherine of Siena, April 29, was streamed live. The popularity of this streaming led to the decision to stream the Evensong for Peace.
