Rosemary Havey
1929-2008

Rosemary HaveyAssociate Rosemary Havey, was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 6, 1929. She was the youngest in a family of four children. Rosemary attended St. Dominic’s and Visitation grade schools graduating from Visitation High School in June 1947. That year in September, she entered the Adrian Dominican Congregation and became known as Sister Roberta Marie. She taught at Michigan schools in New Baltimore, St. Clair, Rosary High School in Detroit, Central Catholic in Port Huron, St. Mary’s in Royal Oak, Lumen Christi in Jackson, and Gabriel Richard in Riverview. She also taught at Regina High School in Wilmette, Illinois and Central Catholic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. All this while she was earning her Bachelors and then Masters degrees.

In 1970, she began medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. On completion of her Medical degree she served in general family medicine at a clinic in Sebewaing, Michigan for. In 1980, Sister Rosemary went on to study for psychiatry. Following the completion of that degree she became the Medical Director of the Mental Health Unit at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital and practiced general psychiatry.

In 1982, due to unforeseen circumstances, Rosemary felt it was necessary to separate from the Congregation. She lived at the time with Sister Joann Weigang in St. Clair Shores. They continued to live together for the next 26 years until Rosemary’s death. Rosemary became an Adrian Dominican Associate in 1990. In all of this time she continued to lead a prayerful life. Often in her annals she would mention the need to continue her spiritual growth and many loved ones told about her generous nature. Rosemary was in the hospital a number of times from 2000 until the present. On the day of her death her Pastor went to visit her not knowing that he would be there for her entrance into eternity. She had a peace-filled passing surrounded by her many friends who were there for her and will miss her.
