Seek Truth • Make Peace • Reverence Life

Adrian Dominican Sisters Gathering for General Chapter 2010

February 16, Adrian, Michigan – From a distance, the Motherhouse campus of the Adrian Dominican Sisters might seem placid in these snowy days of mid-February. But inside the buildings, activities abound and excitement fills the air as sisters come from near and far – some from as far away as Florida, the Dominican Republic, British Columbia, Alaska, and Africa – for General Chapter 2010.

During General Chapter 2010, 300 delegates will meet in Lumen Ecclesiae Chapel, the chapel of Siena Heights University, from Thursday, February 18 through Saturday, February 27. The delegates gather to elect new leadership, a new Prioress and General Council; to review the state of the Congregation; to legislate for the common good; and to set the direction of the Congregation for the next six years.

Chapters are held every 6 years and this chapter’s theme – “The Vision Beckons: Seek Truth, Make Peace, Reverence Life” – is based on the Vision approved by the delegates at General Chapter 2004.

Highlights of General Chapter 2010 will include an opening address by Sister Donna and a keynote address by Candy Hill, Senior Vice President for Social Policy and Government Affairs for Catholic Charities, USA, and the Most Reverend Earl Boyea, Bishop of the Diocese of Lansing, will preside over a special Mass of the Holy Spirit.

This is the prayer that Adrian Dominican Sisters and Associates have been praying during the days leading up to General Chapter and will continue to pray throughout these sacred days.

O Holy One,
stirred by your Wisdom
and companioned by your Love
we ask you to beckon us,
your Adrian Dominican sisters,
to see ever more clearly
where your creation suffers.

We implore you to embolden us
to set out in haste
along courageous paths
that lead toward greater life.

We beg that you beckon us
to brazenly enter into those places
where peacemaking
will one day quell discord,
where dignity and respect
will finally eclipse poverty
where justice and virtue
will topple racism
where truth
will unbind all enslaved by dishonor
and where healing of Earth
will at last come to pass
as your people stand
as one in right relationship.

Impassion us
to open our eyes
to see where your Word
must be preached.

It is time now to set out in haste…
