Magnifcat House in New Orleans Opens Doors
to Women Discerning Religious Life
August 20, New Orleans, Louisiana – At a time when religious life has become more visible to Catholics and non-Catholics alike, the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the communities of women religious serving there – including the Adrian Dominican Sisters – are offering women a home where they can discern God’s call in their lives. Archbishop Gregory Aymond, of New Orleans, blessed the Magnificat House of Discernment for Women on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Already, two women, and perhaps three more, have moved into the house.
“It is the first of its kind in the country,” explained Adrian Dominican Sister Mary Jones, OP. “All communities of religious are encouraged to invite the women to become familiar with their particular charism.”
As a member of the Interview Committee, Sister Mary will interview the women who are interested in living in Magnificat House. The house, formerly the rectory at St. Rita Parish, is not far from St. Mary’s Dominican High School, where Sister Mary ministers.
