Dominican Hospital Awards Grants to Eight Local Non-profits
March 26, Santa Cruz, California – Dominican Hospital and its parent, Dignity Health, have awarded $148,495 in community grants to eight local non-profit organizations to improve community health and wellness. That amount represents the largest ever for Dominican Hospital.
This year's recipients are:
- Community Bridges, for its Davenport Resource Center and Diabetes Health Center.
- Healthy Kids of Santa Cruz County, to enroll eligible children in government-funded insurance.
- Rota Care Bay Area, for clinics offering free care to the working poor.
- Homeless Services, for recuperative care for homeless people discharged from the hospital.
- Hospice of Santa Cruz County, for transitions of people who have life-limiting illnesses.
- Dientes Community Dental Care, for dental care for 200 children of low-income families.
- Second Harvest Food Bank, for nutrition education using fresh produce.
- United Way, to promote healthy eating and physical activity among youth.
Since the early 1990's, community organizations have received more than $1.6 million in grants from Dignity Health, formerly Catholic Healthcare West, and Dominican Hospital, to promote the health and wellness of Santa Cruz County.
