Sister Sara Fairbanks, OP	Welcome to the Preaching Commission section of the Adrian Dominican website! My years as a Dominican preacher has taught me that Dominicans understand gospel preaching to mean much more than simply liturgical preaching. Whereas the gospels attest to the fact that on occasion Jesus did engage in some form of liturgical preaching in the synagogue, nevertheless, the heart of his preaching ministry happened in the market place or on the Palestian frontiers. Jesus was an itinerant preacher who challenged, in word and action, the public and religious life of his time. His central message was the coming reign of God in the face of oppressing human existence. As one of the Promoters of Preaching, I encourage you to reflect and share with others your answer to the following question: “How do I preach the gospel in my life and work?”- Sister Sara
Sister Jeanne Wiest, OP	In this section of the website we offer tools to help you grow in the understanding and practice of the Dominican charism of preaching. Both Jesus and St. Dominic were itinerant preachers, bringing the Gospel wherever they went, to whomever they encountered. The challenge for us today is to recognize the many ways we are called to preach – and how we will preach the Word that will rouse the hearers. - Sister Jeanne

The Preaching Commission

The General Chapter of 2004 recommended the creation of a Commission on Preaching. The purpose of the Commission is to direct the Congregation's efforts to understand and respond more deeply to the call to preach. The rationale for this commission is:

As Dominicans of Adrian, we honor our identity as preachers. Preaching for us is more than liturgical preaching. We preach through the witness of our lives, inclusive of the vision we embrace and the diverse ministries in which we are engaged. We preach in all ways, in all places, with all our unique gifts. The call to preach is at the heart of the Dominican vocation.

The first meeting of the Preaching Commission was November 13-15, 2005. The commission is comprised of representatives from each mission chapter as well as the Leadership and General Councils. The Preaching Commission meets annually.
