February 23, 2019, Miami Shores, Florida – Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD, President of Barry University for the past 15 years, has been named a 2019 Power Leaders by the South Florida Business Journal. She is one of 250 people named by the publication for the honor.

Sister Linda, a 1962 graduate of Barry University (then College), returned to her alma mater in 1969 to serve as Chief Student Life Officer until 1978, and from 1982 to 1986 as the founding Dean of the School of Professional and Career Education (PACE) and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs. She served on the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ General Council from 1986 to 1992 and as President of Gwynedd Mercy College (now University) from 1993 to 2002. 

Sister Linda has served as President of Barry University since 2004 and has been active in the local community as a member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce; United Way of Miami Dade; the International Women’s Forum, Florida Chapter; and the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities.  

The Journal has published a list of Power Leaders in Southern Florida for nine years, focusing on leaders of organizations that have shaped the region. This year, the Power Leaders come from all industries in the area. The list serves as a “resource” of organizations and individuals who have helped to make Southern Florida a dynamic community.
