September 29, 2023, Chicago – Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias presented Aquinas Literacy Center an Adult Literacy Grant of $75,000 on August 25, 2023. Aquinas has been awarded this grant annually for more than 15 years.

The Secretary of State, the Illinois State Library, and the State Librarian are committed to providing adult literacy programs with services and funding to support their mission: to offer Illinois citizens English proficiency instruction. The State Library’s Literacy Office administers the grants.

Since 1996, Aquinas Literacy Center has offered free individualized instruction in the English language to the adult immigrant population of McKinley Park and surrounding areas on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Through one-on-one tutoring and supplemental learning opportunities, learners transform their lives by acquiring skills to become successful parents, productive workers, and responsible citizens.

Aquinas Literacy Center is sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
