Las Vegas / Henderson
The Adrian Dominican Sisters opened St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, Nevada in 1947 after purchasing Basic Magnesium Hospital from the U.S. government for $1. The Sisters originally named it St. Rose de Lima Hospital in honor of a 16th century Dominican mystic and saint known, among other things, for her care for the sick and poor in Lima, Peru.
Adrian Dominican Sisters came to teach at Our Lady of Las Vegas School in 1959.
Seven Adrian Dominican Sisters who staffed Our Lady of Las Vegas School are pictured in this undated photo.
Adrian Dominican Sisters are among the faculty members of St. Joseph School, Las Vegas. The Sisters opened the school in 1948, and the last Adrian Dominican left in 1987.
