Statement of Adrian Dominican Sisters on Executive Actions to Advance Construction of Oil Pipelines

Specify Alternate Text

January 24, 2017, Adrian, MichiganIn response to executive actions signed by President Donald Trump to advance the construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines, the General Council of the Adrian Dominican Sisters has issued the following statement:

The Adrian Dominican Sisters deplore the steps taken today by President Donald Trump to advance construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines. These actions send a dangerous signal about our nation’s commitment to the COP21 Climate Agreement and pose a threat to the drinking water and sacred sites of our Native American brothers and sisters. We call on President Trump to reverse these actions and take steps to lead our country toward a new carbon-free economy of the 21st century.

We need to protect our land and water. This is not necessary! It needs to be stopped!

I am proud that the Adrian Dominicans are taking a stand and voicing their outrage against this deplorable action of President Trump. Blessings as the Congregation continues to be a voice for the disenfranchised and vulnerable people in our country. Stay strong!
