In Memoriam


Sister Patricia Janowicz, formerly known as Sister Mary Sigmund Janowicz, died on October 16, 2017, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 76 years of age and in the 57th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Patricia was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Sigmund and Frances (Lisek) Janowicz. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian; a Master of Education degree in Reading from Marygrove College in Detroit; a Master of Arts degree in Learning Disabilities, and a Specialist Arts degree in Administration and Supervision of Special Education, both from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Sister Patricia ministered in education for 43½ years in Michigan: as an elementary teacher for 10½ years in Paw Paw, Adrian, Belding and Detroit; as a reading consultant for seven years in Detroit and Pontiac; and a special education teacher for 26 years in New Baltimore, Petoskey, East Jordan, and Charlevoix. She also served as a transportation assistant for 10 years for the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. 

Sister Patricia became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by cousins, Mary Ann Strzensinski of Petersburg, Michigan, and Mr. and Mrs. R. Winiarski of Prudenville, Michigan.

Welcome of Sister Patricia will be on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. in the Dominican Life Center lobby; the Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. in the Rose Room. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7:00 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Both the Vigil Prayer and the Funeral Mass will be live streamed. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
