Sister Maureen Therese Masuga, formerly known as Helen Ann Masuga, died on May 25, 2018, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 94 years of age and in the 75th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister was born in Caspian, Michigan, to Paul and Frances (Rucinski) Masuga. She graduated from Stambaugh High School in Stambaugh, Michigan; received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from Siena Heights College (University), Adrian, Michigan, and a Master of Arts degree in English from Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois.
Sister Maureen Therese spent 37 years ministering in education in Detroit, Ypsilanti, Iron River, Escanaba, and Tecumseh, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Santa Cruz and Hayward, California; and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sister was principal for six years at St. Elizabeth School in Tecumseh, Michigan. She was also a member of the Activities Staff at Maria Health Care Center, Adrian, Michigan, for eight years, and Ceramics Instructor for 11 years at Rocky Creek Retirement Village in Tampa, Florida. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2001.
Sister Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul, Kenneth, George, John, and Melvin, and sisters Katherine and Wanda. Sister is survived by a sister Frances Grzeskowiak of Hales Corners, Wisconsin, and loving nephews and nieces.
Welcome of Sister Maureen will be on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in the Dominican Life Center Lobby; the Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. in the Rose Room of the Dominican Life Center. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7:00 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Both the Vigil Prayer and the Funeral Mass will be live streamed. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
