Sister Carol Denise Koenig, formerly known as Mary Catherine Koenig, died on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 85 years of age and in the 67th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Carol Denise was born in Ottoville, Ohio, to Carl and Elizabeth (Landwehr) Koenig. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor’s degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian. She also had training as a hospital chaplain and in pastoral ministry.
Sister spent 23½ years ministering in elementary and secondary education in Detroit, Southgate, and Ypsilanti, Michigan; Mundelein and Hometown, Illinois; Henderson, Nevada; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Cleveland, Ohio. She taught religious education and was pastoral minister for nine years in Ypsilanti, and for 17 years was development and alumnae director for the Dominican Learning Center (St. Joseph Academy) in Adrian.
In 2005, Sister Carol Denise came to reside at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by a brother, Dennis Koenig (Elaine) of Glendale, Arizona.
Welcome of Sister Carol Denise will be on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in the Dominican Life Center lobby. The Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. in the Rose Room. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7:00 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel on Friday, July 6, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Both the Vigil Prayer and the Funeral Mass will be live streamed. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
