(1938-2016)
Sister Joan Mary Dwyer was born in Detroit on April 1, 1938, to Clifford and Vivian (Adkins) Dwyer. Her father was Catholic, but not her mother. Two weeks after she was born, Joan developed pneumonia and received an emergency baptism and the name Joan Patricia. She was formally baptized before her First Communion on March 23, 1947.
In her autobiography, Sister Joan said that her parents divorced and remarried and that she was the oldest of four brothers and three sisters.

Sister Joanmary Dwyer was, without question, the sweetest, most dear person I have ever known. I feel so lucky to have shared part of our lives together. I will never stop being grateful for it or for the lessons I learned from her. She showed everyday that there is more strength in love and forgiveness than in any other emotion, characteristic, achievement or experience of mankind. Her constancy in this is an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Love you so much Sister Joan.
Dearest Janice and Family, We were so sad to hear of Sr. Joan's passing. We are going to miss her. The kids always called her an angel. She was generous and kind. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.Much love, Brigitte, Matt, Daniel, Emma, and Annika
