A Sister Reflects - Reflexión de una Hermana

Ups and Downs | Subidas y Bajadas

June temperatures here in Michigan have been unusually hot, followed by unusually chilly. I have begun to wonder whether this has become a new “usual.” Something akin to how folks have begun speaking about the new normal after the months of sheltering in place and the lifting of these restrictions. Living through unusual experiences causes us to think and feel differently too.

Discernment can be a lot like the weather I described. We can have stretches of time that feel as though we are clear about where the Spirit is leading us. Then in the next period of time we feel lost and at odds with anything we thought we knew previously. Often because we had not discerned a major decision for our lives we may not realize this is a normal pathway through the discernment process; being sure in one moment only to be uncertain and doubtful in the next.

It also is valuable to realize, part of our difficulty knowing which path to follow is that we are often faced with two or three or more good choices. This makes it challenging to figure out. In those moments we call longingly on the Spirit of God to guide us. “O God, teach me your ways, lead me in your paths and teach me.” God’s desire for us and our deepest desire for our lives are the same. What is your deep desire?

May you experience more ups than downs in the search for your calling. These videos may support your reflections: What is discernment? and Does God have a plan for us?

Blessings and our promise of prayer as you journey,

Sister Tarianne

Subidas y Bajadas

Hermana Tarianne
